इस अवसर पर बोलते हुए तरुण भंडारी ने कहा कि मोदी सरकार और विशेषकर विदेश मंत्री श्रीमती सुषमा स्वराज की विफलता के कारण तीन साल से भी अधिक समय तक इन 39 नागरिकों के परिवारों को अंधेरे में रखा गया और इस स्थिति के कारण इन परिवारों को जो कष्ट सहन करना पड़ा है उसके लिए कांग्रेस पार्टी उनके साथ हार्दिक सहानुभूति व्यक्त करती है। उन्होंने कहा कि दुख की बात यह है कि मृतकों की डीएनए जांच करवाये जाने का दावा करने के बाद भी मृतकों के परिजनों को सही सूचना नहीं दी गई, इसके लिए केन्द्र सरकार की जितनी भी निन्दा की जाए वो कम है। प्रदेश कांग्रेस कोषाध्यक्ष ने कहा कि मरने वाले भारतीय नागरिकों में से बच कर निकले हरजीत मसीह नामक व्यक्ति द्वारा दी गई सूचना पर भाजपा सरकार ने विश्वास नहीं किया उलटा उसको जेल में डालकर प्रताडि़त किया गया और उसे झूठ बोलने पर मजबूर किया। उन्होंने कहा कि मोदी सरकार ने जांच के नाम पर जो करोड़ों रूपए खर्च किए अगर वो राशि मृतकों के परिवार में सहानुभूति के तौर पर वितरित की जाती तो ज्यादा अच्छा था। सांपला चौक पर उपस्थित कांग्रेसजनों ने शाम को मोमबत्तियां जला कर इन 39 भारतीयों को श्रद्धांजलि भेंट की और भाजपा सरकार से मृतकों के परिवारों को शीघ्रातिशीघ्र उचित मुआवजा देने की मांग की।
